(23/12/2003)
Potential Partners and Customers Receive a Look
Into the Future of Wireless Home Video
FOCUS Enhancements, Inc., a worldwide leader in
video production and conversion technology, today announced it has
begun demonstrating its proof-of-concept in Ultra Wideband (UWB)
technology to potential customers and partners.
FOCUS Enhancements has leveraged the company's
expertise in radio frequency design and video processing to develop
UWB technology for the consumer electronics (CE) home entertainment
market. Demonstration activity has been high and is expected to
continue into the first quarter culminating with the anticipated
announcement of a partner and/or customer agreement in the second
quarter of 2004.
"The marketplace has shown significant interest
in wireless video," stated Tom Hamilton, executive VP and general
manager of FOCUS Enhancements' semiconductor group. "In the end,
customers want flawless video distributed wirelessly in a home without
interference or burbles. We have made that our goal and that is
what has to be demonstrated to be credible. The demos have been
well received. Potential customers and partners have expressed interest
in working with us to bring products to market faster. CE providers
make up the largest segment of potential customers, but literally
every segment of the electronics market is represented by an interested
party."
Brett Moyer, CEO of FOCUS Enhancements, said,
"Providing UWB for the CE industry fits our overall corporate plan.
This strategy is one of the keys for our expected long-term growth
and central to our overall direction in video acquisition, processing,
and distribution. We believe UWB can also bring exciting new products
and applications to our Home Theater product line."
Steve Morton, VP of Engineering for FOCUS
Enhancements' semiconductor group, stated, "Combining our video
and radio frequency experience with nearly two years of investigation,
research and development, we have identified the challenges and,
more importantly, discovered insights into achieving quality performance
in wireless video applications. Our goal is to ensure our product
will span customer homes with TV-quality video without interruption
and without interfering with other household electronic devices."
