Shell HomeGenie to Be Showcased at Consumer Electronics
Show (18/12/2003)
World's Largest Annual Tradeshow for Consumer
Technology to Feature Integrated Home Management System
Shell Oil Company today announced plans to demonstrate
its new, integrated home management solution, Shell HomeGenie, at
the 2004 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Jan. 8 -
11 in Las Vegas, see www.CESweb.org for more information. Shell
HomeGenie is a home management system that provides consumers with
simple, Web-based remote access of household systems and devices
through a home computer broadband connection to the Internet.
"CES is the paramount tradeshow in consumer
electronics," said Robin Gaeta, general manager for Shell HomeGenie.
"Our participation will give more than 100,000 attendees the opportunity
to experience Shell HomeGenie firsthand, along with the many other
participating top brands and emerging technology products."
Product demonstrations, product information
and Shell executives will be available during CES at the Shell HomeGenie
booth (located at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Ground Level,
South Hall, Sections 1 & 2) to offer insights regarding Shell HomeGenie
and its capabilities.
This exhibit will enable show attendees to
experience how Shell HomeGenie truly fulfills the promise of convenient
home management and peace of mind by letting the homeowner stay
connected to his home, at anytime and from anywhere Internet access
is available.
Shell HomeGenie allows homeowners to remotely
access most household heating and cooling systems through the web-enabled
Shell HomeGenie Programmable Thermostat. Additionally, it enables
the control of lights and select appliances through the Shell HomeGenie
Power Switch and permits monitoring of select areas in the home
through the Shell HomeGenie Wireless Camera. The camera also incorporates
a motion sensor, which Shell HomeGenie owners can set to notify
them via email or text message whenever it is activated. Users can
control these devices remotely through most web-enabled personal
computers, cellular phones or personal digital assistants (PDAs).
Shell HomeGenie customers can also expect many new devices and sensors
to be added in the near future.
Shell teamed with leading hardware manufacturers
to develop the Shell HomeGenie system, including Motorola, Sun Microsystems,
Inc. and Xanboo.
Shell HomeGenie is initially expected to
be available for purchase in early 2004 in limited areas through
retailers, as well as directly on the Shell HomeGenie Website, with
plans for expanded distribution in the U.S. throughout the year.
