Kell Systems unveils its ultra-contemporary stainless steel multimedia cabinet (17/11/2003)

Kell Systems, UK-based designer and manufacturer of bespoke technical furniture, launches its Convergence Cabinet System, featuring stunningly original styling and brimming with all of the technical features of a professional rack.

Hidden beneath the futuristic exterior is the professional-grade electronics environment of an industrial rack, with power distribution, airflow cooling and trunking for up to 16 devices. But the cabinet also features Kell's Invisible Wires cable management system (patent pending) so all unsightly cables and plugs are hidden away out of sight, even with the doors open. Plus the cabinet boasts a wealth of other smart design features, such as lightweight detachable side panels that allow full access to everything inside the cabinet, without having to move it away from the wall.

The Kell Convergence Cabinet has the tactile qualities of a luxury car, and is supplied complete with a remote control handset to switch power on and off to selected devices inside the cabinet, as well as other user-chosen devices within the room. So you can simply walk into a room and switch everything on together (or selectively), and you can use it to turn off power to everything when you leave.

"We believe weāve come up with something truly unique," comments Tim Walsh, Managing Director, Kell Systems. "Much of the styling of AV furniture out there is wholly uninspired, and we wanted to radically depart from the mainstream by creating a sculptural centrepiece befitting the most contemporary of homes. Room installations can look good, but you canāt take them with you if you move house or outgrow the room, and they can take up a lot of floor space too. They are also expensive and disruptive, because you need to get the builders in, and because they require great technical expertise to create. Kell cabinets are the plug-and-play alternative," concludes Walsh.

Despite the stainless steel outer shell, which provides RF shielding, the Convergence Cabinet is specifically designed to support wireless radio frequency and Infra Red controlled devices with the cabinet doors closed. For example Wireless LAN, keyboard or mouse continue to operate, and satellite decoders, DVD players and such like can still be operated with their Infra Red handsets.

Kell cabinets are hand-made to order in the UK in strictly limited quantities.
