News 1,100 SACD titles in Europe and still counting (5/11/2003) The Sony team responsible for co-coordinating production of new Super Audio CD titles reports that Christmas has arrived two months early this year. Its target was to see 1,000 music titles available in Europe by the end of the year. However, with two months remaining, news from the Amsterdam-based team is that the total currently stands at 1,101 Super Audio CD titles with many of these being hybrid, multi-channel releases. "The rate of growth in the software catalogue is amazing with new releases appearing every day. Also, the manufacturing volumes are increasing with many titles being well over 100,000 units," comments David Walstra, Director, Sony Super Audio CD Business Centre (Europe). "With Sony Music now releasing all its Super Audio CD titles as hybrid discs we expect to see sales growth increase even further, since hybrids sell better than single-layer discs."
