Super Audio CD installed base set to reach 4 million
by Spring 2004
The latest market intelligence from Philips and Sony shows that
Super Audio CD's installed base is growing exponentially. By the
end of 2002, there were around two million players in use (with
over 1 million in Europe). Latest market forecasts indicate that
this figure is set to increase to 4 million by next April.
Currently there are 28 consumer equipment
manufacturers marketing Super Audio CD players. With over 65 models
to choose from, music lovers can buy an entry-level player for less
than Euro 300, whilst a broad range of competitively priced combination
players, home theatre system and HiFi components are available to
match any user need and budget.
"Forecasting is a critical element of our
business and the news coming back to us is very, very positive,"
commented Jos Bruins, Marketing Director at Philips Intellectual
Property & Standards. "If we compare Super Audio CD with any other
new audio format currently available, it is creating far greater
demand by offering a completely different customer proposition.
In the end, quality speaks for itself."
