Panasonic Demonstrates Remote Program Recording At ITU Telecom World 2003 (11/10/2003)

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd., best known for its Panasonic brand products will demonstrate remote program recording as a concept during ITU TELECOM WORLD 12-18 October in Geneva, Switzerland. Panasonic's prototype AVC home server is equipped with a broadband receiver that enables users to program and record their favourite TV programs by using an EPG (Electronic Program Guide) program guide system accessible from a mobile phone.

With the rapidly increasing popularity of broadband networking and AV recording devices equipped with hard disk drives, there is a growing need of consumers to connect their digital AV devices at home to the network. The broadband receiver built into the AVC home server was developed to meet such needs as a bridge appliance, connecting the mobile phone and AV appliances inside the house, through broadband network, such as ADSL. By connecting to the Internet, the user can directly control the AVC home server from outside the house, by using a mobile phone or a PC. The EPG service provides easy-to-use programming of the recording.

Various forms of the broadband receiver have already been released in Japan. With the combination of the DY-NET2 broadband receiver and Panasonic's new "DIGA" series DVD recorders equipped with hard disk drives, remote programming is easily possible. Panasonic has also released a combination DVD/HDD recorder DMR-E200H has broadband receiver capability, which can enable access to the Internet through broadband connections like cable TV and ADSL.
