Watch TV Anywhere at Home with World's First Wireless
LCD TV
The truly portable television has arrived. Sharp Electronics is
introducing the world's first wireless Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)
TV, allowing the viewer to enjoy their favourite TV programmes,
DVDs or videos anywhere in their house or garden with no power cable
or connecting wires.
Thanks to its separate video tuner transmitter
box and a built-in battery pack, the LC-15L1E 15" Aquos LCD TV can
be picked up and taken to another room in the house, or even into
the garden, and still receive TV or video pictures wirelessly from
the transmitter box. The user can connect their conventional TV
aerial or digital/satellite TV set top box, DVD player and video
recorder to the transmitter, which then sends a video signal to
the television screen, which can be anywhere within a 30m range.
This unique TV gives the viewer the freedom
to watch television wherever and whenever they want to: see the
big match whilst relaxing on the back lawn; take the television
into the kitchen when making dinner to keep up with the soaps; or
watch a DVD in the bedroom even if the DVD player is downstairs.
These are just a few of the many ways in which the LC-15L1E Aquos
can be used to watch TV without the fuss of wires.
Equally impressive is the fact that the viewer
can change TV channels, switch from watching television programmes
to a DVD and even control a DVD player remotely from the LCD screen
wherever they may be. Simply point the DVD player's remote control
at the TV screen and use it as normal to play, pause, rewind or
fast-forward a DVD video, and the TV will transmit the remote's
signal back to the transmitter box which will then send it wirelessly
to the DVD player.
The TV's cutting-edge wireless capability
is matched by its futuristic design. Styled by leading Japanese
product designer Toshiyuki Kita, the LC-15L1E's screen has striking,
curved speakers either side of the LCD housed in a brushed silver
fascia with a convenient carry handle at the top.
The LCD screen is slim and lightweight, weighing
only 6.2kg and measuring 49 x 35 x 7cm (W x H x D)*. This makes
the display easy to carry from room to room, but it certainly doesn't
feel flimsy, with robust construction and excellent build quality.
The transmitter is similarly finished in silver, and can be placed
horizontally or end-on to take up less space.
The LC-15L1E's wireless performance is achieved
using a 2.4GHz frequency output from the transmitter, giving a range
of up to 30m. When not plugged in to a power supply, the screen
has approximately two hours' battery life, increasing to three hours
if the low backlight option is used. The transmitter has two Scart
inputs and S-Video plus an aerial terminal, so a wide variety of
video sources can be used with the TV, including DVD, VCR, terrestrial
TV broadcasts and digital satellite, cable or FreeView TV via a
suitable set-top-box. It also features Teletext.
In common with all Sharp's Aquos LCD TV's
the LC-15L1E incorporates a high quality LCD panel with a number
of exclusive features. The 640 x 480 pixel (VGA) Black TFT screen
has a very low reflective coating unique to Sharp which cuts out
almost all glare and reflection, giving excellent contrast in bright
conditions, so works well even in sunlight. Sharp's Advanced Super
View (ASV) technology gives an excellent viewing angle of 170( both
horizontally and vertically, 430cdm2 high brightness and a class-leading
contrast ratio of 500:1 for clearer pictures with impressive depth.
Watch-anywhere TV comes to the UK in the
stunning shape of the LC-15L1E 15" wireless Aquos LCD TV in November
2003.
