Snell Announces An Entry Level, In-Cabinet Speaker
at CEDIA 2003
Installer-Friendly with Exceptional Performance, the ICS 500 LCR
was Specially Designed for "Invisible" Installations
Snell Acoustics, acclaimed for its tradition of handcrafted loudspeakers
with leading edge designs, introduces the entry-level, in-cabinet
ICS 500 LCR Speaker at CEDIA EXPO 2003 beginning today in Indianapolis.
Innovatively designed by Snell's chief engineer
Dr. Joseph D'Appolito, a clever re-configuration of the elegant
QBx25 Tower, gives birth to the ICS 500 LCR speaker for applications
that demand the performance of a freestanding tower, in an easily
integratable package. .
Commonly, bookshelf and tower speakers sound
"chesty and cupped" when placed inside cabinets and entertainment
centers. To solve this problem, the ICS 500 uses a special utility
enclosure that houses dual 6 1/2-inch Aerogel woofers, and a 1-inch
aluminum dome tweeter. The cabinet was specially sized and tuned
to integrate into most audio /video furniture, fitting easily onto
a typical 20-inch wide cabinet shelf when placed horizontally or
a 9-inch space when placed vertically.
Voiced to compensate for cabinet boundaries
and off axis response, the ICS 500 achieves an openness and clarity
that matches today's top freestanding designs. Build by hand in
the Peabody, MA factory; the ICS 500 will withstand the rigors of
today's challenging movie soundtracks while upholding its "audiophile"
pedigree when playing music.
