Pioneer Announces World's First DVD-Audio and SACD Player With HDMI

Pioneer Advances DVD Playback With HD Scaling, High Definition Multimedia Interface, and i.LINK

Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc., a leader in digital home entertainment products, today announces the Pioneer Elite DV-59AVi, a new industry reference DVD player that offers both a high definition multimedia interface (HDMI) and i.LINK connectors for the best in both digital audio and digital video connectivity. Pioneer also has added superior DVD video playback capabilities giving this DVD player the ability to scale a typical DVD video signal to HD quality as well as playback of both DVD-Audio discs and Super Audio CDs.

As with all Pioneer Elite DVD players, consumers are assured the highest quality audio and video reproduction. The DV-59AVi includes 216MHz/14-bit video processing and Legato Link PRO(TM), Pioneer's refined frequency range expansion technology for better music reproduction. The player also offers Pioneer's PureCinema(TM) progressive scan circuit to faithfully reproduce the original film frames using 2:3 pull-down inverse telecine technology and display them progressively. If the DVD does not indicate telecine conversion, the PureCinema circuit will process the signal with advanced motion detection and create the new progressive image. The DV-59AVi offers three Burr Brown 192kHz/24 bit high quality chipsets for audio processing, six channel analog audio output, bass management, Dolby Digital(TM), DTS(TM) and SRS TruSurround.

"This is the next logical progression in our highly regarded DVD player line," said Russ Johnston, senior vice president of marketing for the home entertainment division of Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. "Offering a DVD player with a one wire high-bandwidth solution for both audio and video, while still maintaining copyright protection has been a goal of ours for some time now. The DV-59AVi marks the beginning of a new era in DVD player technology and connectivity."

The Pioneer Elite DV-59AVi will be one of the world's first DVD players that will allow users to connect directly to televisions via an HDMI connection. HDMI connectivity allows the DVD player greater functionality because of its pure digital connection taking away unnecessary processing steps. Combined with progressive scan output, optimal video transfer and processing can be realized resulting in the best possible image available today. As a result of having a pure digital connection that can handle high definition, Pioneer was able to add the T-REX(TM) chip into the player, allowing for up-conversion of traditional DVD video signals to high definition resolution.

The i.LINK technology is an industry standardized format, allowing for greater compatibility with other four-pin IEEE 1394 input connections. Pioneer offers a wide range of receivers with i.LINK connections VSX-59TXi, VSX-49TXi, or VSX-55TXi, that enable the DV-59AVi to be used to its fullest potential.

The Pioneer Elite DV-59AVi also offers the following outstanding video features:

* Super-Fine Focus Filter with 4:4:4 video up-sampling.

* Fourteen adjustable video parameters including: Progressive Motion, PureCinema (on, off, auto), YNR, CNR, Sharpness High, Sharpness Mid, Detail, White Level, Black Level, Gamma, Black Setup, Hue, Chroma Level and Chroma Delay. Two new adjustable video parameters for HDMI: HDMI color and HDMI detail. Once the desired adjustments have been made, they can be saved in one of three available user memory settings.

* Three factory video settings (CRT/PDP/Professional).

* Trick play processor (smooth scan).

* Upgraded graphic user interface for easy set-up navigation.
