OSGi 2003 World Congress Will Unveil Major Advances
Towards Integrated, Networked Intelligent Appliances
The networked future - man and machine in complete harmony
The promise of a networked world where your car, home and mobile
devices all communicate seamlessly has long been touted. The OSGi
2003 World Congress is delivering on this promise, and will provide
the opportunity to experience and learn about real-world applications,
actual product rollouts, and implementations in advance of the market.
The latest developments will be unveiled
at OSGi 2003 World Congress in Dsseldorf, Germany, 21-24 October:
a world-class car that provides infotainment and car diagnostics;
a leading consumer device that combines home theater system control
and wireless broadband Internet access; and more.
All of the applications are based on the
open OSGi Service Delivery Platform. This makes interoperability
possible between different devices, in order to connect and access
information from virtually anywhere: your car, home or work. Manufacturers
and service providers benefit from being able to improve integration
and interaction with third party assembly providers, distribution
channels, and consumers, while saving development and maintenance
costs, enhancing the product life cycle and reducing time-to-market.
Consumers benefit from the interoperability of their home appliances,
in-car multimedia systems, and mobile devices, by giving them the
ability to remotely control home appliances from anywhere, download
device upgrades and new service features while at home, and improve
their driving experience with entertainment services for back seat
passengers, car diagnostics and travel routing information.
To drive these implementations, the worldâs
leading developers and implementers of the OSGi Service Delivery
Platform will gather in Dsseldorf to share experiences, introduce
new products, and discuss further developments in these technologies.
The variety of products that qualify is huge; automobiles, consumer
electronics and PDAs, - to name a few - can all be connected via
the OSGi Service Delivery Platform. Numerous industry-leading companies
are members of the OSGi Alliance and will be participating in the
Congress and launching next generation OSGi-enabled products.
Targeted at experts and novices alike, this
event will bring together more than 200 representatives from various
vertical markets, including Alliance members plus developers and
senior managers who need to learn more about the latest advances.
The congress is also the industryâs biggest cross networking opportunity
of the year, thanks to the attendance of a spectrum of specialists
from applications and software developers, service aggregators,
hardware platform providers, consumer electronics and automotive
manufacturers.
"In the future, mobile devices will evolve
to provide consumers with remote control over appliances in their
home, with the same technology integrated into cars. This makes
it possible to adjust the temperature in your living room, or draw
the curtains, on your journey home," said Dr. John Barr, President
of the OSGi Alliance and Director, Standards Realization at Motorola,
Inc. "During the OSGi 2003 World Congress, the leading lights in
the development of this technology platform will be focusing on
the latest deployments - including some exciting products that will
be launched later this year, congress delegates will get the inside
track. Whether youâre an expert or just curious about the effect
on your future business, the OSGi 2003 World Congress in Düsseldorf
is the place to find out."
