Vestel Designs Genesis Microchip's Video Technology
Into LCD TV Platforms
Genesis gm6015 Controller Designed into Vestel's New 20-Inch and
22-Inch LCD TVs
Genesis Microchip Inc. (Nasdaq:GNSS), a world leader in the development
of display technologies for consumer and PC-display products, today
announced that Vestel Electronics, one of the Europe's largest electronics
companies whose products are sold to leading consumer electronics
manufacturers, designed Genesis Microchip's gm6015 digital video
format converter into its new 20-inch VGA and 22-inch wide XGA LCD
TVs. Vestel will be demonstrating both models during the IFA trade
show in Berlin, Germany, August 28 through September 3.
The gm6015 is a single-chip digital video
format converter that incorporates deinterlacing with highly flexible
scaling and aspect ratio conversion technologies for progressive-scan
TV, digital TV and HDTV applications. These technologies are required
to convert standard interlaced and high definition video signals
into formats compatible with the fixed pixel formats of flat panel
LCD and Plasma displays.
"We selected Genesis Microchip's video processing
technology because it provides the broadest suite of features to
satisfy our LCD TV requirements, including motion-adaptive deinterlacing
and film-mode processing," said Mr. Ihsaner Alkim, chief technology
officer for Vestel. "With the Genesis solution, our LCD TVs provide
consistently high levels of image quality while maintaining the
competitive pricing that our customers look for when making their
purchasing decisions."
"We are very pleased that Vestel selected
Genesis technology as the basis of its video processing for its
new LCD TV platforms," said Anders Frisk, executive vice president
and COO of Genesis Microchip. "With our patented video processing
algorithms, we enable Vestel's new LCD televisions to produce clear,
cinema-like images that are visibly better."
Additional features of the gm6015 digital
video controller include:
*Film-mode for proper handling of 3:2 and
2:2 pulldown material.
*Motion-adaptive algorithms that select optimal
filtering on a per-pixel basis to produce maximum resolution and
suppress motion artifacts.
*Flexible horizontal and vertical scalers
to perform aspect ratio conversion and to upconvert an image to
resolutions up to WXGA.
*Frame rate conversion.
*Noise Reduction.
*Input resolutions of 480i (NTSC), 576i (PAL/SECAM),
480p, 720p, 1080i and VGA to XGA.
*Output resolutions of 480p, 576i, 576p,
720p, 1080i, and VGA to WXGA.
