Report predicts ZigBee will dominate two-way low
data rate wireless applications in the home
Market research report analyzes the adoption potential of ZigBee
and the problems of adoption and standardization within the industry.
West Tech nology Research Solutions LLC, a market research firm
focusing solely on emerging technologies, today announced the availability
of their newly updated analysis concluding that adoption of ZigBee
will be ubiquitous but will take some time to grow.
"The overall potential for ZigBee in low
data rate markets has not diminished and demand is building," said
Kirsten West , one of the principals of WTRS. "In the not too distant
future it will be common to find as many as 50 ZigBee chips in a
house. These will be found in light switches, fire and smoke detectors,
thermostats, appliances in the kitchen, and video and audio remote
controls. The same principles apply to networks in industrial, building
automation, and medical markets."
West estimates that by 2006, assuming a 4%
global GDP growth, annual shipments for ZigBee chipsets into the
home automation segment alone will exceed 46 million units and will
grow rapidly thereafter. WTRS forecasts 3 scenarios that are dependent
upon global GDP growth projections. These reflect adoption potential
in various markets while taking into account the nascence of the
technology market and its consequent susceptibility to economic
conditions.
The ZigBee Market Report and Analysis provides
sales volume, unit shipments, and average selling price by vertical
market as well as geography, segmented into three global GDP growth
scenarios. In addition, it provides corporate profile information
of some of the companies currently developing to the ZigBee protocol.
Companies profiled at some length include Adcon Telemetry AG, Agere
Systems, AMI Semiconductor, Atmel, Eaton Corporation, Ember Corporation,
ENQ Semiconductor, Figure 8 Wireless, Helicomm, Integration Associates,
Invensys, Microchip Technology, Millenial Net, Mitsubishi Electronic
Industrial, Motorola, and Philips Semiconductors. West Tech nology
Research has also authored definitive studies of Smart Card, Gateway,
Wireless Overview, and UltraWideband market potential. Market reports
are re-issued on a quarterly schedule, either for one-time purchase,
or annual subscription (4 quarterly reports).
