The Smart Building Conference @ ISE - Where AV Meets Intelligent Building Design (3/1/2013)

By Dan Goldstein, ISE

Placing the AV industry at the heart of discussions about the future of intelligent building design, the Smart Building Conference is making its debut at Amsterdam RAI on 28 January 2013, the day before ISE 2013.

A joint venture of ISE's co-owners InfoComm International and CEDIA, the Smart Building Conference is designed to attract architects, design consultants, developers, electrical contractors and other key stakeholders in the construction sector, along with the integrator, distributor and manufacturer channels that represent ISE's core market. The conference will be a truly international forum that will include a range of high-quality presentations and discussions, and will also provide excellent networking opportunities.

The Amsterdam RAI will host the Smart Building Conference on 28 January 2013.

Background

The inaugural Smart Building Conference (SBC) programme was developed with the help of an advisory group comprising a range of respected industry experts. The conference will look at how smart buildings are being designed, built and used, with case studies illustrating the different possibilities available in specialist technology areas such as lighting control, multimedia distribution and energy management, along with bigger-picture presentations from some of the industry's pre-eminent educators and consultants.

Benefits

Delegates will be able to hear from industry leaders as they discuss smart-building technologies and how they are already being applied in the real world. They will find out how sustainability and intelligence can offer new business opportunities for system designers and integrators, and discover how 'smart rooms' are evolving into 'smart buildings', 'smart campuses' and 'smart cities'. Delegates will also be able to take advantage of excellent networking opportunities with key decision-makers in the intelligent building and energy management sectors, and as an added bonus, will enjoy free admission to Integrated Systems Europe trade show as part of the SBC delegate ticket.

Programme

The programme has been designed to provide a compelling blend of industry insights, case studies and discussions, and will be kicked off by CEDIA's Education Manager, Geoff Meads, with a presentation on 'The Smart Home Future: Where Homes Meet Humans, via Technology and Ecology'. Next is Allen Weidman who is Executive Director of The STEP Foundation and Sustainability Officer for InfoComm International. His presentation is titled 'Sustainable AV to Smart Spaces: How the STEP Rating System Can Help Sell Smart Building Technology, One Space at a Time'.

Graham Naylor-Smith, Associate Director of Arup then presents 'From Smart Rooms to Smart Buildings', and this is followed by a case study, presented by Joost Brinkman, Senior Manager of Accenture, on The Smart City Amsterdam Project.

Lutz Steiner of Technische Universität Darmstadt and Dieter Michel of ABB then discuss 'From Smart Buildings to Sustainable Cities' – a research-based look at how intelligent buildings can be inter-connected to the benefit of the wider urban community.

After lunch, Gwen de Meyer, CEO of custom installation firm Van Havere, will address the topic ‘Multi-Room Media in the Smart Building Era’ – examining how multi-room distribution of AV is being influenced by the deeper integration of audio and video content with other building controls in the domestic environment.

This is followed by Jon Melchin, Director of Architectural Business Development, FSR and a member of InfoComm International’s Green AV Task Force, with a look at 'Building Information Modelling: What it Means for the AV Industry'.

Lucy Martin, Design Director of John Cullen Lighting will talk us through 'The Importance of Control in Good Lighting Design', and finally, there will be a panel discussion on 'The Future of the User Interface in Smart Building Control’, with representatives from Legrand, Crestron, AMX and Control4.

Registration

Pre-registration costs are 179 Euros (+VAT) for CEDIA and InfoComm members and 199 Euros (+VAT) for non-members. Registration on the day costs 229 (+VAT) for members, and 249 Euros (+VAT) for non-members.

The conference will take place on Monday 28 January from 10.00 - 17.30 and includes lunch. Your conference ticket also provides you with free admission to the ISE tradeshow, which takes place 29-31 January 2013.

And that's not all. As well as a packed programme full of new sessions, your conference ticket entitles you to complimentary admission to ISE's 10th Birthday Party and the Keynote Address, presented by globally renowned cyber-illusionist, Marco Tempest. Both events will be held on the evening of 28 January 2013.

Conclusion

In a constantly shifting business and technology climate, tomorrow's buildings will need to be greener, more efficient, and easier to live and work in. In other words, they will need to be smart.

The Smart Building Conference brings together some of the world's foremost experts on intelligent building design, implementation and usage. Be a part of this revolution at the Smart Building Conference @ ISE. We look forward to seeing you there!
