Newsletter - 3 September 2007 - Cables & Connectors

The wet summer and recent stock market volatility have resulted in plenty of doom and gloom predictions, but the residential systems market can take heart from two of this month's market research reports. The Frost & Sullivan 'European Home Automation Market' report states that the market is set to double by 2013, with revenues of $232.6 million in 2006 increasing to reach an estimated $446.6 million in 2013. The Parks Associates 'Brand Awareness, Use and Preference among Home Systems Integrators' report estimates total channel revenues for the US market will reach $9.8 billion in 2007, grow to more than $11 billion in 2008, and will approach $20 billion by 2012. You can find details of further market research in the HiddenWires market research news service.

Reports from IFA, currently running in Berlin, and previews from the CEDIA US Expo, which opens its doors in Denver this week, are also upbeat. This issue's news is dominated by these events and for those specifically interested in the CEDIA Expo, we have produced a special CEDIA US Expo 2007 news section This will be added to as we do our best to visit as many of the 600+ exhibitors as is humanly possible in four days!

Our feature this month is Cables & Connectors, and is sponsored by VizionWare. We have five articles covering active digital interconnects for delivering error free high definition over long distances, an industry opinion piece on trends in cables and connectors, best practice structured wiring for new-build and a structured approach to pre-wiring for property developers, plus an overview of the new compulsory certification membership requirements for CEDIA ESPs. We also have two case studies: one looks at the use of a biometric entry system; the other a luxurious home theatre demo room in Belgium.

Finally, we'd like to welcome Weibel Lift as a Platinum sponsor, and Monitor Audio and Dynalite Europe as Gold sponsors.
