Combining sleek styling with award-winning sound and images, Meridian offers unique, fully integrated systems carrying pristine digital quality from the studio to the living room.

What's new?

September turned out to be a month of trade shows and exhibitions. It started with IBC (International Broadcasting Convention) in Amsterdam, which was dominated by IPTV and mobile TV - high definition is now taken for granted when it comes to production and post production equipment and displays. While it's not clear how these new forms of TV are going to generate income, video content is becoming more mobile and this will have an impact on the residential market.

In fact, while we were on the plane travelling out to the CEDIA US Expo, Apple announced its first movie downloads, and debuted iTunes 7 and new iPods with video support. Apple also previewed its move into the livingroom with a new product, codenamed iTV. This allows TV shows and movies, that have been downloaded from the iTunes Store, to play on a TV in another room. It will be available early 2007 for US$299. If we were in any doubt about Apple's impact on the custom install market so far, a walk around the CEDIA US Expo revealed so many ways to integrate the iPod into music and multiroom systems that all doubts disappeared.

This was our first visit to a CEDIA US Expo and it lived up to our expectations - large, well-run and packed full of products that will be coming over to Europe in the near future. We returned with a mountain of information, and to help categorise this, we have produced a special CEDIA US Expo 2006 news section that we are still adding to. The month rounded off with 100% Design and the Smart Home Zone at the London Homebuilding and Renovating Show, both of which seemed well attended, although the visitors to 100% Design were treated to a very limited selection of home technology companies.

We are pleased to announce that HiddenWires is supporting the InAVation Project and Technology Awards. Developed by InAVate magazine to recognise and celebrate professional excellence in technology and integration throughout the EMEA region's dynamic commercial and residential AV industry, the awards will be held during ISE 2007. The deadline for entering the Technology Awards is 27 October 2006 and the deadline for entering the Project Awards is 30 November 2006. Further information and entry forms are available at the InAVation Awards web site - don't miss this opportunity to get your company noticed.

We are also pleased to be sponsoring the ISE 2006 Roadshow in Eastern Europe starting at the end of October and going to Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Turkey. The intensive one day programme will offer plenary sessions with keynote speakers, supported by leading companies showcasing the latest in AV systems integration technologies through a series of workshops, plus an open exhibition. This trade-only event is free on presentation of your business card and you can register online now.

Finally, our feature this month is Television, and is sponsored by A+K. We have four articles covering selling HDTV, distributing TV using CAT5e, HDTV distribution, and Internet video services, plus whitepapers on video processing and perforated screens. We also have CEDIA's ten smart consumer electronic tips.
