What's new?

In case you missed our recent announcement, the CEDIA UK Expo is fast approaching and we will be producing a special CEDIA UK Expo 2006 news section, as well as a HiddenWires@CEDIA UK Expo 2006 newsletter. The newsletter will be distributed in print at the show and online as a PDF. To see this year's news section click here and last year's newsletter click here. Please contact us if you would like to be included. For those wanting to attend this trade-only event, register before 5th May 2006 for the special early-bird, free entry to the Expo only.

Also on the event front, the organisers of Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) have announced a date change. ISE 2007 will now be held on Tuesday 30th January - Thursday 1st February 2007 at the Amsterdam RAI.

As some of you know, we publish equipment guides for the professional broadcast, film and AV industries, for which we've just returned from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Convention in Las Vegas. Being involved in the professional side allows us an insight into what services broadcasters and other media companies are planning for consumers in the future. This year the show was dominated by IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) and MoTV (Mobile Television). These new distribution channels are causing broadcasters to scratch their heads, and are bound to add to an already confused digital television marketplace. There were also several demonstrations for services beyond high definition. The most impressive was the Ultra High-Definition TV System developed by NHK Science & Technical Research Laboratories in Japan. Not only did this 4320 scanning line system offer stunning picture quality with 7680x4320 pixels, but also the world's first 22.2 multichannel sound system.

The resources at HiddenWires are free to use thanks to sponsorship and advertising, and we would like to welcome Unipalm as a new sponsor.

Finally our feature this month is Home Cinema and is sponsored by A+K Home. We have 5 articles covering cinemascope, home cinema sound, high definition disc technology, scaling and NAS media servers.
