HiddenWires ezine - 4 October 2004
Welcome to the HiddenWires ezine - a free newsletter designed to keep
you up-to-date with high-end home automation and home entertainment news,
as well as developments at HiddenWires.co.uk.
We will deliver this service to you every month - unless there is some
major news we think you should know about sooner.

What's new?
September 2004 saw traffic to HiddenWires reach a landmark 50,000 visitors.
This is an incredible response in just 15 months and far exceeds our initial
predictions, but maybe it shouldn't have surprised us. For fifteen years
we've provided consultancy and publishing services on nonlinear recording
and editing to the professional broadcast, video and audio industries.
We've witnessed IT technologies revolutionise how content is produced,
but even our more interesting stories, such as visiting George Lucas'
Skywalker Ranch and minding Stevie Wonder's Synclavier, are only met with
a glimmer of interest. Friends and relatives admit to not having the foggiest
idea about what we do. However since we first announced that we were moving
into home technology, the questions haven't stopped. What should we buy?
How does this work? Why won't it record? Can you sort my TV out? Maybe
the never-ending questions and the fact that everyone we know seems to
be interested, should have been a clue as to how popular HiddenWires would
become. Of course we aren't going to rest here.
On the news front, we bring you the usual mix of product and business
news, with many more announcements from the CEDIA US Expo. Unfortunately
a direct clash of dates, meant we were in Amsterdam for the International
Broadcasting Convention rather than Indianapolis for CEDIA, but our trip
did confirm one thing - high definition television (HDTV) is finally an
issue for Europe. Currently the only European broadcaster transmitting
high definition content is HD1 (previously known as Euro 1080), however
BSkyB's high definition launch is in 2006 and all of the BBC's output
will be high definition by 2010. High definition content displayed on
a large HDTV-capable flat screen is compelling, and being HDTV-ready is
worth considering for all future installations.
The feature this month is Installation and we have three articles covering
project planning, using a professional and new-build housing developments.
Twofour Broadcast are producing a new TV series called Lads Pads for
Discovery Home & Leisure and are looking for participants. If you
are male, aged between 20 and 50, with a bit of money to burn, and have
a vision for your high-tech home, then call Tom Weston or Leah Harris
on 01752 333900, or email tomweston@twofour.co.uk.
Naturally we're a little disappointed with one of these criteria, but
the series promises to be interesting!
