Showcase Monitor Audio, a global specialist in hi-fi loudspeaker design Monitor Audio Ltd UK is a global specialist in hi-fi loudspeaker design, incorporating stereo and surround sound systems, and a range of sonically matched architectural speakers for ultra discreet high quality sound around the home and even outside! Since hi-fi was in its infancy, we've dedicated all our technical expertise, innovation and craftsmanship to the creation of world-class loudspeakers, which say everything about the brand and the people who own it.
Since the early 1970s Monitor Audio has been developing an alloy called C-CAM(r) (Ceramic Coated Aluminium/Magnesium) for most of its drivers. Originally used by the aerospace industry for jet engine components, C-CAM's properties are ideal for loudspeaker cones being extremely rigid, yet light enough to yield high overall efficiency. In manufacture, aluminium/magnesium alloy undergoes stress-relieving processes to remove surface deformation and molecular weakness. Once formed, the alloy cone is subjected to a high temperature anodic coating process, in which a layer of pure ceramic alumina is depleted onto its surfaces to give a completely rigid exterior. Conventional cone materials are liable to flex or twist in operation, producing a significant level of audible distortion. C-CAM cones have a much higher resistance to bending stress and therefore exhibit much greater fidelity.
For example, when developing an out-and-out CI product like our Climate 10 outdoor speaker we found that many rivals, even the bigger ones, lacked the bass and vocal intelligibility for the job. By deploying our metal driver technologies, we were able to design a compact and efficient multiple driver system (including a passive bass radiator), which filled out the frequency response and went loud without stress, helping the smaller more elegant Climate 10 to compete beautifully with a more prosaic peer group. What's more, the innovative 200 and 300 series Directed Theatre in-ceiling models are genuine three-way designs having a very wide, smooth and directable frequency response, but by virtue of superior driver technologies and alignment, they occupy the same footprint as the average two-way speaker, providing more performance per square inch of ceiling any other speakers in their class.
Drawing on a design heritage that few loudspeaker companies can match, Monitor Audio has devised a versatile portfolio of CI product that not only delivers great sound from better built, more compact designs, but also shares a similar tonal character, allowing system designers the opportunity to mix and match on-wall, in-wall, floor or stand-mounting models for the perfect fusion of colour, shape and performance for any space.
